A Child Called "It" Reflection

The book is Called, A Child Called "It"  By Dave Pelzer and it's a biography.                   11/1/17

This book is about a little boy, Dave, who gets abused by his mother at the age of 4 - 12 and he doesn't tell anyone or do anything about it because his mother brained washed him to do everything she says and too not get her caught. The book is very sad book so it's hard to find my favorite part of the book, but I liked the part when Dave went to the school nurse to talk to her, and she was telling him stuff, but the nurse made him feel welcome and that he can talk to her if anything and Dave felt happy that someone actually cares about him. He's been through a lot of pain lately and I felt like what the nurse told him brightened up his day or even his whole week.

The main character is Dave and he is brave. He's brave because during many years of being abused he manage to fight though it all. He doesn't want his mom to be the reason he doesn't want life anyone, he is going to fight back until everything ends. I know this because in the book Dave talks about how he doesn't want to cry for her anymore, and he wants all this to be over already. Even though he feels like he's going to end up dying, he will always stay strong and try to fight thought it.

Why I liked this book is because of how brave Dave was during this situation. Even thought he was getting abused he still fought thought it, and this proves that even though there are times were you feel like giving up, don't, because things will get better. Even if it takes years, just try your best and fight though it. Why I didn't like this book is because what his mom was doing to Dave, how she punishes him. The things she does to him gets worst and worst. And I just don't like how he is just a little boy still growing up and he gets treated like this. I will sort of recommend this to a friend. One reason I won't because it is a sad book and for those who aren't really into all that stuff wouldn't enjoy it and will have a hard time reading it. A reason I will recommend this book is because child abused is a very serious topic and should be discussed. Child abused can happen to anyone, and at any age. The theme of the book is to appreciate the little things you have. A lot of people worry about what clothes and shoes brands they wear, but Dave never had new clothes, or a bed to sleep on. Little things like sleeping on a bed, getting a glass of water, and getting food means a lot to Dave because he doesn't get that stuff, he'll be happy with at least a cover to sleep with.

The Outsiders Book Movie Comparison

In the poem “What Love Isn't” and “The Outsiders” both share a common theme which is Love.

In What Love Isn’t its says, “It is discomfort — it is
not what the films say. Only songs get it right” This means that in films about love and relationships it shows the good side to relationships, the side where there's no arguments and fights. In songs it talks about all sides of relationships the bad and good. The reality of being in a relationship and how it's not perfect and it also talks about the good things about relationships.

This connects to the theme of the Outsiders because the relationship they all shared had problems and arguments but they also had good times they shared together.

In the poem it says, “It is not a five star stay.” If you give a hotel five stars it was a great stay. No problems, everything was perfect. They are staying relationships aren’t like that, all relationships aren’t perfect, every relationships has problems.

This connects to the theme of the Outsiders because the relationship they all shared isn't a five star stay, there is problems that goes on but it is also not a 0 star stay, there are good things that happens between them all. In the Outsiders they talked about how nothing gold can stay, meaning we always lose something in life that means a lot to us. Like how PonyBoy, SodaPop, Darry lost their parents, their parents meant a lot to them. Also how Dally and Johnny died and how nothing gold can stay. That's what they been talking about a lot during the Outsiders.

What Love Isn't and the Outsiders shared a common theme about love, how every relationship isn't always perfect. There are problems that goes on but it's not always filled with problems, it also have memories they all have with each other.

“I am A Jew” is a poem that I made into a poster. Click on my link to learn more about what Jews felt during the concentration camps.
